The name bromine is based on the Greek word bromos which means stench.

Uses:

1. Insecticides: Bromine is used in making insecticides like Methyl Bromine. Some of these products are also used for fumigation of palletized cargo for shipping.
2. Dyestuff & Pigments: Bromine is commonly used in color pigments & dye stuff largely for textile purposes.
3. Petrochemicals: Bromine has a major use in petrochemical sector for manufacturing chemicals like hydro bromic acid.
4. Pharmaceuticals: Bromine is widely used in many life saving drugs in form of various bromine based compounds like magnesium bromine, sodium bromide, etc.
5. Flame Retardants: Major flame retardants have bromine based compunds.

• Bromine is available in 3 kg bottles stacked in plastic crates.
• In total 6 bottles( 18 kg bromine) are stored in one plastic crate.
